Dartmoor Winter Traverse 2027
The Dartmoor Winter Traverse is a fully supported cross-moor challenge held on 20 February 2027. It offers two route options and crosses remote parts of Dartmoor, finishing at Meldon. Entries open 28 April 2026 and close 11 February 2027. Entry fees include GPS tracker hire.
The route passes Red Lake and the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym, then continues north via Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor. The line then follows the Rattlebrook dismantled railway before descending to Meldon. The course is almost entirely off road and runs largely across open moorland without way markings.
Maps and navigation support are provided in several forms: an Outdoor Active route, a GPX file, and recommendations to use OL 28 Dartmoor (1:25,000) or BMC Dartmoor (1:40,000) maps. Full details on mandatory and suggested kit are supplied in participant handbooks.
Qualified mountain leaders and experienced guides will be on the course to assist with navigation and provide first aid cover; participants may follow guides or proceed independently. Cut off times at the final checkpoint are described as generous and transport will be available to the end point for those unable to complete the distance. Coach transport from the finish to the start can be booked separately. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
