Dartmoor Winter Traverse 2027
The Dartmoor Winter Traverse is a fully supported off-road challenge across Dartmoor on 20 February 2027. The event offers two route options that run mainly over remote, unmarked moorland and include sections of rough, boggy ground and limited daylight typical of February.
Distances:
- 50 km route from south to north, approximately 50 km (30 miles), almost entirely off road.
- 30 km option from Princetown to Meldon.
The route passes Red Lake, the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym, then continues via Princetown before reaching Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave, Chat Tor and the Rattlebrook dismantled railway, finishing at Meldon (Meldon Village Hall listed as finish). The event is organized by Climb South West Ltd and will have qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides on course to assist with navigation and provide first aid. A GPX file will be available and the route can be viewed via Outdoor Active; the organizer recommends using paper maps OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor alongside any GPS.
Entry details include GPS tracker hire. Entries open 28 April 2026 and close 11 February 2027. Entry fees: 50 km £95.50, 30 km £69.50. Coach transport from the end to the start and transport options from the finish are available to book separately. The event is run as a challenge rather than a race; checkpoint cut off times are generous. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
