Dartmoor Winter Traverse 2027
The Dartmoor Winter Traverse is a supported off‑road challenge across Dartmoor on 20 February 2027, running from the south to the north of the moor and finishing at Meldon. The route is approximately 50 km and passes remote moorland areas with limited daylight and changeable winter weather.
The event offers two course options:
- 50 km Ultra route across the north and south moors.
- 30 km Challenge from Princetown to Meldon.
The route goes past Red Lake and the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym, includes Princetown as a break point, then continues through Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor before joining the Rattlebrook dismantled railway into Meldon. The course is almost entirely off road and largely unmarked across open moor, so map use and navigation skills are relevant.
Climb South West provides route support, qualified Mountain Leaders and guides for navigation and first aid, and the entry fee includes GPS tracker hire. A GPX file will be available and participants are advised to use paper maps such as OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor alongside digital routes. Full information on mandatory and suggested kit, generous final checkpoint cut off times, coach transport options, and entry arrangements is provided in participant materials.
