Event overview

The Dartmoor Winter Traverse on 21 February 2026 is a fully supported south-to-north challenge across Dartmoor. The event offers two course options and is open to runners and walkers. Entries open 2 May 2025 and close 12 February 2026. Entry fees are £91 for the 50 km and £66 for the 30 km. The entry fee includes GPS tracker hire. The event is described as a challenge rather than a race; cut off times at the final checkpoint are generous.

Course and logistics

  • 50 km - full south-to-north traverse (approx 50 km / 30 miles)
  • 30 km - Princetown to Meldon

The route is almost entirely off road and goes through remote, open moor with limited way markings. It passes Red Lake, the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym, and northern moor locations including Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor. The route then follows the Rattlebrook dismantled railway to the finish at Meldon Village Hall. Maps and a GPX file are available via Outdoor Active; the organiser recommends using OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor maps alongside the GPX. Qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides will assist on the course and provide navigation help and first aid cover. Coach transport from the finish to the start will be available to book separately. Full mandatory and suggested kit is detailed in the participant handbook. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
