Dartmoor Winter Traverse 2027
The Dartmoor Winter Traverse on 20 February 2027 is a fully supported journey across Dartmoor from south to north. The event offers both running and walking options and travels through remote areas of the moors.
- 50 km Ultra - approximately 50 km, mostly off road.
- 30 km Challenge - Princetown to Meldon.
The route passes Red Lake and the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym. After a break at Princetown the course continues across the North Moor via Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor, then follows the Rattlebrook dismantled railway to the finish at Meldon Village Hall.
Weather and limited daylight in February are noted factors and terrain is often rough underfoot. Much of the route is across open moor without way markings. An Outdoor Active route is available and a GPX file will be provided; the organiser recommends using these alongside OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor maps. Entry fee includes GPS tracker hire and participant handbooks list mandatory and suggested kit.
Qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides are on course to assist with navigation and provide first aid; participants may stay with guides or continue independently. Coach transport from the end to the start can be booked separately and there are generous checkpoint cut off times with transport available for those who cannot complete the distance.
