Distances:
- 50 km (approximately 50 km / 30 miles), almost entirely off road
- 30 km (Princetown to Meldon)
Route, safety and logistics
The route crosses remote moorland with limited daylight and variable February weather. It passes Red Lake and the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym, then continues via Princetown to the North Moor areas including Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor, before following the Rattlebrook dismantled railway to finish in Meldon. The course is mainly across open moor without way markings.
A GPX file and an Outdoor Active route map are available. Organisers recommend using these alongside OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor maps and following the participant handbook for mandatory and suggested kit. Qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides will be on the course to assist with navigation and first aid. Coach transport between finish and start can be booked separately. Cut-off times at the final checkpoint are described as generous and transport to the end is provided for those who do not complete the distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
