Dartmoor Winter Traverse
The Dartmoor Winter Traverse takes place on 20 February 2027 and offers a winter walk or run across remote areas of Dartmoor. The event provides a fully supported route and a shorter option, and both distances are open to runners and walkers.
- 50 km south to north, fully supported, almost entirely off road.
- 30 km from Princetown to Meldon, follows same line as the 50 km from Princetown.
The route is mainly across unmarked open moorland and passes Red Lake and the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym. There is a break in Princetown before the route continues across North Moor locations including Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor, then onto the Rattlebrook dismantled railway and down to Meldon. Organisers provide a GPX file and recommend using the OL 28 or BMC Dartmoor maps; full mandatory and suggested kit is listed in the participant handbook. Qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides are available on course to assist with navigation and to provide first aid. Weather and limited daylight in February are noted factors. Cut off times at the final checkpoint are generous and transport to the finish is available for those who do not complete the distance. Coach transport from the end to the start is available to book before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
