Event Details

The Darter Dash is an annual trail running event featuring a 5K and a 10K distance. It takes place at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson, Alabama. The event is organized by the Birmingham Ultra Trail Society (BUTS) in partnership with the preserve.

The Course

The course uses trails within the preserve. It includes some moderate elevation changes. Runners follow paths beside Turkey Creek. A short portion of both race routes is on pavement.

Event Features

A unique post-race option is the Splash Challenge, where participants can tube down a waterfall at the finish line. The event provides a pancake breakfast and mimosas after the race. Water and typical aid station snacks are available at the finish. An award ceremony recognizes top finishers in several categories, and there are sponsor giveaways.

Registration and Logistics

Registration for the event opens on April 1, 2026. Participation is capped at 125 total runners across both distances. There is no race-day registration. Bib and race packet pickup begins at 7:00 AM on the morning of the event.

About the Location
