Daniela Conte Foundation Butterfly 5K Run/Walk & Fun Run
This annual charity event at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY, features a 5K run/walk and a kids fun run for children aged 8 and under. The event benefits the Daniela Conte Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides financial and memorial support to families of children with cancer, raises awareness, and funds research.
The 5K is held on the park walk and bike path and is a USATF certified course. Both in-person and virtual participation options are available; virtual participants can upload times and photos on race day, and bibs for virtual entries are mailed. Packet pickup occurs on the morning of the event.
On-site amenities include refreshments such as coffee, bagels, and snacks; bibs for all participants; an awards ceremony with trophies for the top three overall male and female finishers; and medals for cancer fighters and survivors. A t-shirt and finisher medal are guaranteed for the first 500 registrants. Family-focused attractions include a kids fun run, face painting, games, prizes, and post-race refreshments and entertainment. Baby strollers and baby joggers are permitted on course provided they line up in the back.
