Daniela Conte Foundation Butterfly 5K Run/Walk & Fun Run
The event is an annual community 5K run/walk with a separate kids fun run held at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY. Registration is not yet open and will open ahead of the listed event date. A virtual participation option is available; virtual participants may upload times and photos on the event date and receive mailed swag within the stated shipping window.
Amenities include participant bibs, post-race refreshments, coffee, bagels and snacks, games, prizes, face painting, and entertainment. There is a dedicated ceremony and medals for cancer fighters and survivors. A T-shirt and finisher medal are guaranteed for the first 500 participants. New this year participants aged 21 and over receive one free pint provided by Lunchbox Brewing Company after the race. Baby strollers and baby joggers are permitted on the course but must line up in the back.
The 5K course runs on the park walk and bike path and is a certified 5K course. Awards include trophies for the top three overall male and top three overall female finishers, plus quality medals for the top three male and female finishers in multiple age groups from youth through 80 and over. Proceeds benefit the Daniela Conte Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides financial and memorial support to families of children with cancer, raises awareness, and funds research.
