Daniela Conte Foundation Butterfly 5K Run/Walk & Fun Run
The event is a community 5K run and walk with a separate kids fun run held at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY. The course is run on the park walk and bike path and is a certified USATF 5K course. Registration is not yet open and will open ahead of the listed race date.
The event benefits the Daniela Conte Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides financial and memorial support to families of children with cancer, raises awareness, and funds research. The foundation describes its mission and the race proceeds support programs for children with cancer.
On-site amenities include bibs for all participants, a guaranteed T-shirt and finisher medal for the first 500 registrants, post-race refreshments, an awards ceremony, games, face painting, and activities for families. Medals will be presented to cancer fighters and survivors. A free pint of beer will be offered after the post-race activities to participants aged 21 and over, supplied by a local brewery. Strollers and baby joggers are permitted on the course if they start from the back.
Virtual participation options are available; virtual participants may upload times and photos on the official race date and may receive shipped bibs.
