Daniela Conte Foundation Butterfly 5K Run/Walk & Fun Run
The Daniela Conte Foundation Butterfly event is a community 5K run/walk with a separate kids fun run. It benefits the Daniela Conte Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) childhood cancer foundation that provides financial and memorial support to families, raises awareness, and funds research.
The event is hosted at Heckscher State Park in East Islip. The 5K course uses the park walk and bike path and is listed as a USATF certified 5K course. Virtual participation is supported; virtual participants may upload times and photos on the designated upload date and bibs can be shipped with a shipping window that ranges from one week before to one week after the event.
Amenities listed for the event include participant bibs, a guaranteed T-shirt and finisher medal for the first 500 registrants, refreshments, an award ceremony, games and family activities such as face painting, and post-race entertainment. One free pint of beer will be provided to participants over 21 and of legal age, supplied by a local brewery. Medals are designated for cancer fighters and survivors, and trophies are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers. Age group awards are given to the top three in multiple age divisions. Baby strollers and baby joggers are permitted but must start from the back.
