Daniela Conte Foundation Butterfly 5K Run/Walk & Fun Run
This annual community event centers on a 5K run/walk at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY and includes a kids fun run for ages eight and under. The 5K course uses the park walk and bike path and is listed as a USATF certified course. Registration is not yet open for the upcoming edition.
The event offers both in-person and virtual participation. Virtual entrants can upload times and photos on the event date and may receive mailed bibs within the shipping window described by the organizer. In-person participants receive bibs and there is on-site packet pickup the morning of the event.
On-course amenities and post event features include refreshments such as coffee and bagels, post race snacks and entertainment, an award ceremony, and face painting and activities for children. The event provides a t-shirt and finisher medal guaranteed for the first 500 registrants, bibs for all participants, and a special medal presentation for cancer fighters and survivors. Participants over 21 are offered one free pint of beer provided by a local brewery. Baby strollers and baby joggers are permitted on the course but must line up at the back.
Awards include trophies for the top three overall male and female finishers and quality medals for the top three male and female in multiple age groups. All proceeds benefit the Daniela Conte Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting families of children with cancer and funding related awareness and research efforts.
