6th Annual Daniela Conte Foundation Butterfly 5K Run/Walk & Fun Run
The Daniela Conte Foundation Butterfly 5K Run/Walk & Fun Run is an annual community event held at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, New York. The event takes place on a USATF-certified 5K course that utilizes the park's walk and bike paths. Participants can choose between in-person attendance or a virtual participation option.
The event offers the following distances:
- 5K Run/Walk
- Kids Fun Run
- Virtual 5K
The 5K Run/Walk is open to participants aged 9 and older, while the Kids Fun Run is an untimed event specifically for children aged 2 to 8. For those participating in the Virtual 5K, times and photos are uploaded on the day of the event. Baby strollers and joggers are permitted on the course, provided they line up at the back of the starting group.
Participants who register early, specifically at least three weeks before the event, receive a personalized race number. T-shirts and finisher medals are guaranteed for the first 500 registrants. Post-race amenities include refreshments such as coffee, bagels, and snacks, alongside entertainment, face painting, and an award ceremony. Trophies are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, with additional medals provided for the top three finishers in various age groups ranging from 9-12 to 80+.
Procceds from the event support the Daniela Conte Foundation, a non-profit organization providing financial and memorial assistance to families of children with cancer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
