Cumbrian Traverse

The Cumbrian Traverse is a professionally guided, fully supported high level route across the Lake District. The route starts at Broughton Mills in Dunnerdale and finishes in Keswick. The course covers 50 km with approximately 3,500 m of ascent and crosses 21 fells, including a series of named summits along the way.

The event is led by qualified mountain leaders and mountaineering instructors with a low staff to participant ratio (maximum 1:6). Support arrangements include a support vehicle, refuelling opportunities at two road crossing checkpoints, and transport from Keswick to the start plus transfer options for those who need to leave the route early. Organisers reserve the right to modify the route for unsuitable weather.

Two pace options are offered. The running option combines slow running with walking on steep or technical sections and targets a completion time of roughly 14 to 16 hours. The walking option avoids running and targets roughly 16 to 18 hours. Group sizes are limited for safety and logistics; the listed open event has a maximum of 12 places and a cost of £299. Prior experience such as completing the Welsh 3000s over two days or a 50 km event is recommended for preparation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
