The Cross Country Sundown Showdown is scheduled for July 17, 2026, in Carterville, Illinois. The event is presented as the 1st annual Sundown Showdown and uses a high school-style cross country format on a 5K course. The race surface is mostly grass with some gravel and paved path mixed in.

Race details

Distance: 5K

The event is organized as a team competition with teams of 3 to 5 runners. Scoring is based on runners' finishing positions, and the team with the lowest total score wins. Awards will be given to the top 20 female and top 20 male finishers and to the top team in each division: Male, Female, and Mixed.

Race markings will use paint colors for each mile: Mile 1 - Red, Mile 2 - White, Mile 3 - Blue. A lead vehicle will guide runners through the course. The race start and finish are located behind the Carterville Community Center at 120 N Greenbriar Rd, Carterville, IL 62918.

Registration opens June 8, 2026, at 8:00 AM CDT. Entry price listed is $25. Registration and bib pickup take place at the Carterville Community Center on the day of the event; the shirt order deadline is July 5, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
