Crescent City Triathlon
The Crescent City Triathlon is a multi-sport event held in Crescent City, California, approximately 20 miles south of the Oregon border. The event features an adult triathlon, an adult duathlon, and a youth triathlon. The adult triathlon consists of a 500 yard pool swim at the Fred Endert Municipal Pool, followed by a 12 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run.
The adult duathlon includes:
- 1 mile run
- 12 mile bike
- 3.1 mile run
The youth triathlon is divided by age groups:
- 5-6 year olds: 50 yd swim, 1 bike lap, 1/4 mile run
- 7-8 year olds: 50 yd swim, 1 bike lap, 1/2 mile run
- 9-10 year olds: 100 yard swim, 2 bike laps, 1/2 mile run
- 11-12 year olds: 100 yard swim, 2 bike laps, 1 mile run
Participants may compete as individuals or as part of a relay team in the triathlon. There is also a specific relay category for businesses. The event is professionally chip-timed. All participants are required to wear bicycle helmets during the cycling portion, and the use of electronic bikes is prohibited. Lifeguards are present for the swim segment, and swim flotation devices are permitted for participants in the kids' divisions. All finishers receive medals, and further awards are given to top finishers across various age categories.
The course is located near coastal areas featuring rocky sea stacks and sandy beaches. While the event is supervised and the course is marked, it is recommended that participants bring layers of clothing as local weather conditions are often cool.
