Cowboy Tough Adventure Race
Cowboy Tough is an adventure race held at Curt Gowdy State Park in Wyoming. The event is part of the USARA Race Series, the Rocky Mountain Adventure Race Series, and the ARWS North American Series. Race disciplines include mountain bike, trekking, and paddling, with trek only options available.
The event uses a Rogaine style format in which teams choose their own route, prioritize checkpoints, and may bypass optional sections to maximize points. The course covers varied terrain including mountains, granite outcroppings, high plains, technical singletrack, and scenic paddling sections. Organizers note cool summer temperatures at the venue.
Race formats include 8 hour and 50 hour options with entries for solo competitors and teams of two, three, or four. The 50 hour solo listing includes a distance of 50 Miles. Registered participant fees shown for racing are $140 for 8 hour entries and $405 for 50 hour entries; volunteer positions are listed with no fee.
The format emphasizes navigation, route choice, and teamwork as much as physical effort. Course design offers opportunities for teams to use different strategies to gain points and to scale the experience by selecting which checkpoints and course sections to attempt.
