Corvedale Cake Walk

The Corvedale Cake Walk is a distance event organized by the LDWA Marches Group, starting and finishing at the historic Holdgate Church near Much Wenlock. The course takes participants through the heart of the Corvedale landscape in Shropshire. Both walkers and runners are permitted to participate in the event.

Participants can choose between two primary distances:

  • 22 miles
  • 10 miles

The routes involve significant elevation, including a climb to Abdon Burf, which is the highest point in Shropshire. The 22 mile course also traverses tracks and fields toward Munslow Park and climbs Wenlock Edge, offering views toward Mid Wales. This longer route passes through the villages of Clee St Margaret, Eaton, and Wilderhope. The 10 mile route heads to the summit of Abdon Burf before passing through Clee St Margaret and Tugford on the return to the event centre.

Both courses utilize segments of the Jack Mytton Way. Information provided indicates that the event takes place in livestock country; therefore, dogs are not permitted. All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The event includes checkpoints providing refreshments such as cakes, sandwiches, and hot drinks, with hot dogs served at the finish line. Participants are required to bring their own mug and are advised to carry suitable clothing for changeable weather and a specialized map of the Longmynd and Wenlock Edge area.
