The Coolest 10km Trail Run takes place in Cool, California, on the Olmsted Loop Trail within the Auburn State Recreation Area. The event is held in conjunction with the Coolest Ride and Tie and uses the Olmstead Trailhead at 7200 St. Florian Ct. Trailhead parking is located behind the local fire station; from Highway 49 runners turn right just before the fire station and blinking red light to reach the trailhead.
The course is an approximately 10 km loop that parallels Highway 49 on one side and the American River Canyon on the other. Runners pass through open, rolling hills with several species of oak trees and spring wildflowers. The route includes steep canyon descents and climbs as it crosses Knickerbocker and Salt Creeks.
Elevation on the course ranges roughly from 1229' to 1529'. Vertical gross is listed as approximately +799 ft and -795 ft. The course features a fully staffed aid station at about mile 3, stocked with Hammer Nutrition products.
