Overview
Lakeland Trails in Coniston is a trail running event held at Coniston Sports and Social Club. The event follows well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways from the shores of Coniston Water into the Coppermines Valley. The routes take in views of local fells including the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags. Live music, race commentary and food and drink stalls are provided in the event village.
Distances and entry
- 10k
- 16k
The 10k is open to runners aged 16 and over. The 16k has both a Challenge option for walkers and less competitive runners and a Race option for competitive entrants; the Challenge has a longer time limit. Earlybird pricing is limited to 250 discounted places and club members receive a further 10% discount. Event t-shirts must be ordered in advance.
Course, aid and rules
Courses are mainly hard packed trails with occasional muddy sections and some gates; parts of the route cross private land available for race day only. Water stations: one on the 10k (at 5.4k) and two on the 16k (at 5.4k and 9.5k). Competitors are asked to carry their own water or bring a reusable cup; cups are not supplied on course. Dogs are not allowed on the course. In-ear headphones are prohibited; bone-conductor headphones are permitted.
Logistics and safety
Race numbers must be collected on race day and attached horizontally so timing chips read correctly. All courses are marshalled and event medics and radio communications are in place. Retiring runners must report to a marshal or the finish. Parking is charged (£5 per car, £6 per van) with free parking for cars carrying four or more people; a bike rack is available.
