Event overview
The Compton Downland Challenge is organised by Compton Harriers Running Club and is scheduled for Saturday, 16 May 2026. The event offers two multi-terrain race options that start and finish at Compton village recreation ground (Burrell Road, Compton, Berks, RG20 6NP). Both routes loop across the Berkshire Downs and cross parts of the ancient Ridgeway, using quiet tracks, trails and bridleways with some short, traffic-free road sections.

There is an opportunity to switch from the marathon to the 16 mile route at the 9 mile point. An overall time limit of seven hours applies. The event will be held under UKA rules (Trail Running Association permit to be confirmed). The marathon route includes approximately 1,500 ft of ascent; the 16 mile route includes approximately 1,050 ft of ascent.
Timing chips and race numbers are collected at race headquarters. Marshals will cover major turns. Aid stations are positioned about every 3 to 4 miles offering drinks and snacks; runners are asked to bring a cup. Finishers receive a hand-thrown mug from White Horse Pottery. Additional provisions include refreshments, showers and toilets, and parking a short walk from the venue. Entry fees start at £32.50 with higher on-the-day fees and an additional levy for unaffiliated runners. Minimum age for either race is 18.
