Compton Marathon and 16 Mile Challenge 2026
The Compton Challenge will be staged on Saturday, 16 May 2026 as the 26th running of the event. It offers two multi-terrain race options that start and finish on Compton Village recreation ground (Burrell Road, Compton, Berks, RG20 6NP).
- 26.8 miles full marathon
- 16 miles shorter route
Both routes follow clearly marked loops across the Berkshire Downs and cross sections of the ancient Ridgeway. The course uses quiet tracks, trails and bridleways that can get muddy when wet, plus some short traffic free road sections. Runners may switch from the marathon to the 16 mile route at the 9 mile point.
Race administration and rules: the event is held under UKA rules with a TRA race permit to be confirmed. The minimum age for both races is 18. Runners who have not reached the 9 mile point by 11:15 will be directed onto the 16 mile route. There is an overall cut off time of 7 hours.
Entry and facilities: registration information lists affiliated and unaffiliated entry prices and a 2 levy for unaffiliated runners. Timing chips and numbers are collected on the day from race HQ. Marshals will be positioned at major turns. Aid stations are placed about every 3 to 4 miles with drinks and snacks; participants are asked to bring a cup. The marathon route includes about 1,500 ft of ascent and the 16 mile route about 1,050 ft. All finishers receive a hand thrown mug made by the White Horse Pottery. A free BBQ and free tea and coffee will be available during the day. Showers, toilets and ample parking are provided a short walk from the venue.
