Columbia Duathlon - Race overview
The Columbia Duathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned multisport event held at 7000 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia, MD. The event includes an adult sprint race and two youth races. The race venue has a stated capacity of 450 participants and the event has sold out in recent years.
The courses are looped and described as relatively flat with one hill. The bike course for the adult sprint is completed as five loops for a total of 10 miles; the run legs are looped and each adult run leg is 2 miles. The run course uses paved trail surface and offers one aid station at mile 1. The youth bike course is one loop (2 miles) and youth run legs take place on parking lot surface behind the venue.

Age rules require adults to be at least 14 years old and youth to be 7–15 years old. Participants are assigned race age by a December 31 cutoff. Packet pick-up requires each entrant to pick up their own packet; photo ID is required for participants 18 and older and youth must be accompanied by an adult. Transition-area access is restricted to athletes and one adult/guardian or sibling aged 15 or older who wears the issued wristband. Timing chips and wristband procedures differ for adult and youth races. Adult and youth award categories and packet inclusions such as a shirt and finisher medal are specified by the organizers.
