Columbia Duathlon
The Columbia Duathlon is a multisport event held on the Columbia Gateway Drive circle in Maryland. The course is primarily flat and follows a looped format, featuring one notable hill on both the cycling and running portions. This event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and is designed to accommodate various experience levels, including those participating in a duathlon for the first time.
The race utilizes a transition area located at 7000 Columbia Gateway Drive, with designated parking available in a nearby corporate lot. Participants are required to attend an athlete check-in to receive their race materials, which include a bib, a wristband for transition area access, and a bike adhesive number. A pre-race course talk and a transition clinic are typically offered the day before the event to review race procedures and best practices for moving between the run and bike legs.
Available distances include:
- Adult Sprint: 2 mile run, 10 mile bike (5 loops), and 2 mile run
- Youth (11-15 years): 0.5 mile run, 2 mile bike, and 1 mile run
- Youth (7-10 years): 0.5 mile run, 2 mile bike, and 0.5 mile run
The adult bike course is conducted on the road with police support at turns, while the adult run takes place on a paved trail surface with an aid station providing water and electrolyte drinks. Youth run segments are held on a parking lot surface. All finishers receive a medal and a t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
