Event Information
Cloud 9 is a hill race organized by the Congleton Harriers running club. It is held under Fell Runners Association (FRA) rules and is categorized as BM.
Course Details
The route is a scenic, mostly off-road 9 mile (approximately 14.5 km) course. It starts at Brunswick Wharf in Congleton and goes to the summit of Bosley Cloud (1125 ft / 381 m of ascent) and back, passing the ancient Bridestones along the way. For the 2026 edition, the main part of the route will be run in an anticlockwise direction, with modifications around the Biddulph Valley Way.
Participation and Requirements
Entrants must be aged 18 or over. The entry fee is £15 (£14 for FRA members). A mandatory kit requirement is in place: runners must carry a full waterproof body cover (jacket and trousers with taped seams and an integrated attached hood), a hat, and gloves. Kit checks will be conducted, and runners without the full kit will not be allowed to start. The race uses chip timing. Dogs and MP3 players are not allowed. Electronic devices for navigation are also prohibited; the route is marked and marshalled.
Logistics
Registration and changing facilities are at Congleton Leisure Centre on Worrall Street. There is no parking for runners at the leisure centre; nearby public car parks are available. The race has a cut-off time of 60 minutes at approximately 3.9 miles into the course. Entrants are encouraged to bring a food bank donation for the Congleton food bank.
