City of Lakes Triathlon : Santa Rosa, New Mexico
The City of Lakes Triathlon is a two-day event held in Santa Rosa, New Mexico on August 7–8, 2026. The weekend program includes Sprint and Olympic triathlon distances, relay team options, aquabike races (swim and bike only), and a youth Splash & Dash. The open-water swim takes place in Twin Lakes, the bike course passes through high-desert scenery, and the run returns participants toward the lakes and the local community.
Distances for the main triathlon formats:
- Sprint: 750 m swim, 12.4 mi bike, 3.1 mi run
- Olympic: 1500 m swim, 24.9 mi bike, 6.2 mi run
The swim course is a 750 m loop in Twin Lakes, completed once for the Sprint and twice for the Olympic distance. Relay entries are available for both Sprint and Olympic formats, allowing teams to divide the swim, bike, and run legs. Aquabike options use the same swim and bike segments while omitting the run.
The Kids Splash & Dash takes place the day before the main races and features short, age-appropriate swim and run distances for children roughly in the elementary to early-teen age range. The youth event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and focuses on participation rather than timed competition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
