Trail Running in North West Texas
The Chupacabra 50 takes place at Copper Breaks State Park in Quanah, Texas. The event features multiple distances through the west Texas landscape, characterized by a dry and cool climate. The course utilizes the Copper Breaks State Park trails and Bull Canyon, offering a variety of terrain including single-track dirt trails, wide grass, rock, and sandstone.

- 50M
- 53K
- 20K
- 9K Run
- 9K Ruck
The terrain is slightly hilly, with the 50M distance featuring approximately 2,500 feet of elevation gain. For the ruck category, participants must carry a minimum weight of 25 lbs in a ruck sack or vest.
Safety requirements are in place for all participants. A water carrying system with a minimum capacity of 16 ounces is mandatory for all events. Additionally, runners in the 50M and 53K categories are required to use headlamps. The race organizers provide aid stations stocked with water, electrolytes, ice, and various hot and cold foods. Drop bags are permitted at the start/finish area, and a specific drop bag service is available for the Lone Ranger Aid Station for long-distance participants. Pacers are allowed during the final loop for the 50M and 53K distances.
Finisher awards include collectible medals for most distances, while 50M finishers receive a silver buckle. The event is part of a larger regional series held across Central Texas. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
