Christmas Island Jingle Bell Run
The Christmas Island Jingle Bell Run is a nighttime event held at General Burnside Island State Park in Burnside, Kentucky. Participants navigate a course that passes through the Christmas Island light display. The event features two primary categories:
- 5K Run (3.1 miles)
- 5K Competitive Walker
The competitive walking category follows strict regulations. Walking is defined as maintaining contact with the ground with at least one foot at all times. Participants in this category are not permitted to run, jog, or trot at any point during the course. Failure to maintain a walking gait results in disqualification to ensure fairness among all competitors in the walking division.
The event includes a costume contest for both individuals and teams. Participants are encouraged to dress in holiday-themed attire, such as reindeer teams or depictions of Santa's sleigh. The race takes place on a single evening in December, providing a unique opportunity to view holiday light installations within the state park setting. Registration for the event typically opens a year in advance and closes several months prior to the race date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
