Chasing the Sun : event overview
Chasing the Sun is the inaugural endurance event held at McDowell Mountain Regional Park with laps run on a looped course of 4.1 miles per lap. Participants may enter as solo runners or as teams of two, three, or four. Race formats are time-based: competitors attempt to complete as many laps as possible within 3 hours, 6 hours, or 10 hours and 42 minutes.
The event uses chip timing with chips fixed to the reverse side of race numbers and posts live results to the web at regular intervals. Duo, trio, and quad teams receive a race belt to transfer the race number between teammates. Amenities include a race long sleeve hoodie and awards for the top finishers in male, female, and coed divisions across solo and team categories.
Food and coffee are available on site from a vendor offering coffee, breakfast burritos, pizzas and other items. Parking and camping are available at the Four Peaks Staging Area on a first come first served basis; park entry and overnight camping fees apply per the park rules. Sunrise Trails Coaching is listed as the official training partner and offers training options for the race formats.
Packet pick up and a staging area are provided at the Four Peaks Staging Area in the park. A site map and course route are provided by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
