Charleston Distance Run

The Charleston Distance Run is a multi-distance athletic event held in Charleston, West Virginia. The event features a variety of course types and distances tailored for different participation styles. The race starts at the State Capitol and follows a scenic route that transitions through several distinct areas of the city.

Participants navigate a course that passes through the downtown district and includes sections along the riverfront. Part of the route also traverses hillside neighborhoods. The event offers three primary categories for entry:

  • 15 Mile Race
  • 3-Person 15-Mile Relay with legs of approximately 3 miles, 5 miles, and 7 miles.
  • 5K Run/Walk on a flat course.

The 15-mile relay is structured with specific terrain for each leg. The 5-mile section takes place in the hills, while the 3-mile and 7-mile segments are primarily flat. For the relay event, individual registration and entry fees are required for each of the three participants, and the first person to register is responsible for establishing the team.

The event utilizes the area surrounding 1900 Kanawha Blvd, East as a central landmark for the proceedings. Registration for all categories typically occurs several months in advance of the scheduled race date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
