Chariots of Fire Beach Race - West Sands, St Andrews
The event on 31 May 2026 is centred on West Sands beach in St Andrews. The main race is a simple out and back of approximately 5 km, run entirely on sand and in surf along the beach. The turn is at about 2.5 km and is marked with feather flags and a piper; marshals will help direct competitors.
Distances:
- 5 km out and back on sand and in surf.
- 1 mile children’s fun run for ages 11 and under.
Entry and fees are specified: there are 800 places in total, with 700 allocated on a first come, first served basis and 100 drawn by random ballot. Adult entry is £19. The children’s fun run has an on-the-day entry of £5; the children’s race is timed and chip timing is used for all competitors. After essential costs, proceeds go to RNLI, Home Start and Families First.
Logistics include registration in a marquee adjacent to the Dook Cafe on West Sands where runners collect race numbers with timing chips. There are no changing facilities at the immediate site but a council toilet block and portable toilets are available nearby. Parking is provided on grass verges behind the sand dunes with marshals to direct vehicles.
