Triathlon and Multisport Festival on Sir Bani Yas Island
Challenge Sir Bani Yas is a multifaceted sports event held on Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. As the first long-distance triathlon in the Middle East, the event takes place within a protected wildlife reserve that is home to over 17,000 free-roaming animals, including giraffes, gazelles, and Arabian oryx. The race environment features a mix of coastal scenery and internal island roads.
Participants can choose from a wide range of distances and disciplines:
- Long distance: 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, and 42.2 km run.
- Middle distance: 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, and 21.1 km run.
- Standard distance: 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, and 10 km run.
- Swim events: Distances of 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, and 1,600 m.
- Bike events: Distances of 30 km, 60 km, and 90 km.
- Fun run: Distances of 2.5 km, 5 km, and 10 km.
The swim courses are held in the Arabian Gulf, typically offering calm, crystal-clear waters. The bike course uses the island ring road and inter-connecting roads, featuring a mix of flat sections and elevations reaching up to 100 meters above sea level. The run course is a flat coastal route consisting of multiple loops through the central race village.
The event utilizes a cruise ship as a floating hotel and race village, providing accommodation and logistical support directly at the island. All finishers receive a medal and a t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
