Challenge for Charities - Lander Half Marathon, 5K, and 1 Mile
Challenge for Charities is a community fundraiser organized by the Lander Community Foundation that culminates in three footraces held in Lander, Wyoming on July 4, 2026 at Centennial Park.
- Half Marathon - continuous climb up Baldwin Creek Road then descent on Squaw Creek Road
- 5 km - follows the Riverwalk through town to McMannis and City Park then joins half finish
- 1 Mile Mad Dash - out and back on Main Street, kid focused with strong spectator support
The half marathon course offers views of green fields, winding creeks, red bluffs, the Lander foothills and the Wind River Mountains. A parade and an evening fireworks display are part of the community events on the same day.
A scholarship program offers first come, first serve assistance with applications accepted April 1 through May 1; awards may cover up to a 100 percent discount and partial scholarships are possible. Recipients are notified by May 15 and must use any provided discount code before June 1.
Registration closes on July 1. Entry fees vary by registration period; shirts are not included but may be purchased as add-ons while supplies last. Youth shirts cost $12; ladies and unisex shirts cost $18. Packet pickup is available the day before at Lander Bake Shop and on race morning.
Safety rules note that dogs are discouraged and must be leashed if present. Roller skates, inline skates, roller-skis, scooters, and skateboards are not allowed. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. There is no bag drop. All finishers receive a medal. Awards are given to the top three overall men and women in the half marathon and 5K, and the Gilbertson Gold is presented to the first male and female half finishers in honor of the race founders. Post-race lost and found is held at Wild Iris Mountain Sports for one week before donation. Results are posted on the Lander Community Foundation site and on Its Your Race.
