Chad’s Day For Change Urban Trail Race
Chad’s Day For Change Urban Trail Race is held at Gold Bar Park in Edmonton and highlights the east end of the river valley trail system. The course includes single-track and double-wide trails and uses three loops that start from Gold Bar Park: a 12 km loop to Dawson Park, a 12 km loop crossing the North Saskatchewan River into the Sunridge ski area, and a 10 km loop through Goldstick Park. These loops pass fishing spots and trails frequently used by the event's namesake and their family.
The event offers a range of distances and formats:
- 34Km solo
- 34Km relay (3 runners)
- 21Km Half Marathon
- 12Km or 10Km single loop solo
- 5Km walk/run
- 1.2Km kids event
The race is held to honor the life and memory of the event's namesake who died by suicide on August 13, 2023, and to raise awareness about men's mental health and available support groups. HeadsUpGuys is the listed beneficiary platform providing online resources and education while maintaining user anonymity. The event reports fundraising totals from prior years and current targets. Each registration includes an optional CA$10 add-on for HeadsUpGuys and an opportunity to donate more; the kids event requires a minimum CA$5 donation with no other fees. All finishers receive a medal and all categories except the kids event receive a shirt. Registration fees vary by distance and by early bird and regular registration periods.
