Chad’s Day For Change Urban Trail Race : description
This urban trail event highlights the east end of the river valley trail system, featuring single track sections and wider double-track trails. The race starts at Gold Bar Park and follows three separate loops: a 12 km loop to Dawson Park, a 12 km loop crossing the North Saskatchewan River into the Sunridge Ski Area, and a 10 km loop through Goldstick Park. The course runs past local fishing spots, riverside trails and several parks.
The event offers multiple formats and distances:
- 34 km solo
- 34 km relay for three runners
- 21 km half marathon combining two loops
- 12 km or 10 km single loop solo
- 5 km walk/run
- 1.2 km kids event
The event is held to honour the life and memory of an individual who died by suicide on August 13, 2023, and aims to raise awareness of men’s mental health. Proceeds support HeadsUpGuys, an online platform that provides anonymous resources and education for men facing depression and suicidal thoughts. The first two editions raised CA$17,400. Each registration offers a CA$10 add-on for HeadsUpGuys, and the kids event requires a minimum CA$5 donation with no additional fees. All finishers receive a finishers medal; shirts are provided to all participants except those in the kids event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
