Wendover Woods 50
The Wendover Woods 50 is a 50 mile (81 km) foot race run as 5 x 10 mile loops on forest trails entirely within Wendover Woods, woodland operated by Forestry England. The route contains significant climbing and descent, and is described in the race details as having 10,000 feet of ascent and 10,000 feet of descent. The course is almost entirely on trail with a small proportion of road, marked with recycled ribbons and Centurion arrows, and held under a UK Athletics permit via the TRA.
The event uses nine well stocked aid stations with a variety of nutrition options including gels, electrolyte drinks, water, hot drinks, sandwiches and options for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diets. Medical cover includes a static first aid team at the start/finish and a roving team inside the woods; in remote incidents runners should also contact emergency services on 999 as instructed in pre race information.
Entries open on a first come, first served basis with a limited field and a required qualification of a completed marathon distance within the specified window. Runners must carry mandatory kit at all times, examples include a charged mobile phone, survival blanket, whistle, waterproof jacket, warm hat, gloves, a dry long sleeved top and a personal cup. Pacers and crew are not permitted; supporters may be present on course but may not hand items to runners except at marshalled aid stations. A finisher medal is awarded and prizes are given to top finishers and veteran category winners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
