South Downs Way 5km
The South Downs Way 5km is a 5 km (3.1 mi) trail race on rolling trails around the private Matterley Estate in the South Downs National Park. It takes place alongside the 10 km event and shares the start and finish location used by the South Downs Way 50 km and 100 km races at Matterley Bowl.
The course is trail terrain with about 140 m (450 ft) of elevation gain. The route is fully marked with pink tyvek ribbons and pink Centurion arrows, and marshals are positioned at key junctions. Medical support is available. There are no aid stations and the event uses a one-hour cut-off.
Entries are limited to 200 starters and the minimum age is 12 on race day. Entry fees are £20 (£22 unaffiliated). Entries for 2027 open on 20 September 2026. The race is held under a UK Athletics permit granted through the TRA, permit number pending.
