Event overview

The South Downs Way 50km is a non-stop 50km trail ultramarathon held on 13 June 2026. The event is the second annual running of this race and forms part of the World Trail Majors - Short Series. Registration and the race start are at Matterley Bowl and the finish is in the Event Field at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. The course lies entirely within the South Downs National Park and follows the chalk ridgeway and much of the South Downs Way National Trail.

Course, support and rules

The route covers about 31 miles with approximately 4,000 ft (1,200 m) of ascent and is roughly 80% trail and 20% road. The course is fully marked with ribbons and marker arrows. There are four well stocked aid stations offering vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, full medical support including a roving team, and finish-line food and hot drinks. Pacers and crew are not permitted. Runners must complete the course within a 9 hour time limit; additional cut-offs apply at aid stations. Mandatory kit is required and may be checked on course and at the finish; a one hour time penalty is applied if items are missing. Overnight camping at the start line and live tracking are provided. Entry is open to all with a minimum age of 20. Entry fees are listed as £80 (affiliated) and £82 (unaffiliated). Entries and other event details are managed by the organiser.
