Centennial Route 66 5K
The Centennial Route 66 5K honors the 100th anniversary of the historic American highway. Held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, the event provides a course that blends roadside history with a unique running environment. The race starts and finishes at the Gate 2 Route 66 Experience exhibit, a location featuring vintage signage and historical displays.
The event features two primary participation options:
- 5K
- 5K Virtual Run
The 5K course consists of a scenic loop through the fairgrounds. A notable feature of the route is a full one-mile stretch on the Illinois State Fair Grandstand Track. Participants will have their official one-mile split time captured specifically during this section of the race. The course is marshaled and marked at all critical turns.
All finishers receive a custom-designed medal created specifically for this centennial milestone. The event also includes awards for top overall finishers and winners in age-group brackets divided into five-year increments. A virtual run option is also available for those who wish to complete the distance remotely. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
