Cederberg Backyard Ultra 2026
The Cederberg Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Jamaka Organic Farm in the Cederberg. The event follows an unconventional Backyard Ultra format that emphasises repeated loops rather than a single timed distance.
Runners must complete a 7.8 km loop with 430 m of elevation every 90 minutes for 22.5 consecutive hours, completing 15 loops. If more than one runner remains at the 16th loop, a final footrace decides the winner. Only runners who have completed all required loops are eligible to win.
The race village surrounds a designated start and finish area for refuelling, hydrating and resting between loops. Entry includes a shared camping spot for runners; supporters may camp but must purchase separate camping tickets. The course is marked and prepared and the event provides an aid station, sweepers and marshals, medical support, a finishers medal, a finish line drink and an awards celebration.
A portion of ticket sales is donated to Sustainable Ceder to support cedar planting in the Cederberg. All participants must be at least 18 years old on race day. There are quiet hours in the evening and music is not permitted. Because part of each ticket supports the sustainability partner, tickets are non refundable and non deferrable.
