Cayuga Trails : event and course information

Cayuga Trails is a trail ultramarathon held at Robert Treman State Park and the Old Y Camp area near Ithaca, NY. The event offers two main distances and is routed primarily on trails with notable gorge, waterfall, and historic stone stair features. The course is roughly 95% singletrack and 5% paved.

  • 50 Mile, 50 miles, ~10,200 ft elevation gain
  • 50K, 31.6 miles, ~6,900 ft elevation gain

The course passes dozens of waterfalls, mixed eastern forest, and sections of historic stone stairs. Route layouts have changed over the years; past course records were set on earlier configurations and may not be directly comparable to the current courses.

Aid stations are positioned at multiple intervals, including Treman Meadows, Y Camp (staging), and Buttermilk. Y Camp serves as a primary staging area where entrants may leave drop bags for collection and shuttling to Buttermilk at designated miles. Buttermilk drop bags are not returned to staging until that aid station closes in the evening; unclaimed bags will not be returned. Aid stations provide water, an E drink option, Coke, and assorted foods with some gluten free options.

Poles are permitted, pacers are not, and crews are allowed with limited parking and access restrictions. The field is capped and organizers typically move runners from a waitlist to reach the target starting size. Portions of entry fees support local trail and park organizations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
