Caveman Challenge at Waterloo Lake
The Caveman Challenge takes place at Waterloo Lake Park in Denison, Texas on October 10, 2026. The event offers a range of distances on looped courses around the park.
Distances
- 1.5 mile fun run
- 5k
- 10k
- Half Marathon
- Marathon
- 50k
Course format uses a 5k loop and a 10k loop. The half marathon is two laps, the marathon three laps, and the 50k combines three laps of one loop plus the 10k loop. There are two aid stations on course: a pavilion station at the start/finish area and a roadside station about four miles into the loop. Ten kilometer runners pass the roadside station twice; the other distances pass it three times. Aid station supplies include water and electrolyte replacement, fruit, sweet and salty snacks, and peanut butter and jelly options.
Packet pickup is available the evening before the race at the parking lot and during a pre-race pickup on race morning. Registration and refund policy provide race credit rather than refunds: cancellations more than 30 days before the event receive 100 percent credit for next year; cancellations between 30 days and two weeks receive 50 percent credit; no refunds or transfers are allowed less than two weeks before race day. Credits must be used within one year, with extensions considered for medical or military reasons.
Runners registered at least two weeks before the event are guaranteed a shirt. Every finisher receives a medal, and there are awards for first overall male and female finishers in each distance. Parking is available in two lots with limited space and along nearby streets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
