Basalt Breaks Giants Causeway Coast Marathon Events
The Basalt Breaks Giants Causeway Coast Marathon, launched in 2010, is a trail running event on the North Coast of Northern Ireland near the Giant's Causeway. The event takes place around Portballintrae and uses coastal and forest routes that include rugged paths, cliffs, beaches and exposed headlands. Several sections feature the Portbraddon rock scramble and White Park Bay.
The event offers multiple distances:
- 10 km Race in aid of Cancer Focus NI
- 10 km Challenge Walk in aid of Cancer Focus NI
- Half Marathon 21 km
- Full Marathon 42 km
- Ultra Marathon 64 km
The marathon and ultra are ITRA points events, with 1 point for the marathon and 2 points for the ultra. Proceeds from the 10 km race and the Challenge Walk support Cancer Focus NI. The event attracts participants from Ireland, the UK and other countries and describes out-and-back routes that provide continuous views of the Atlantic Ocean.
