Casterbridge Canter Trail Run
The Casterbridge Canter is a midweek summer evening trail event held on a private family estate near Dorchester and organised by Dorchester Middle School PTFA (Charity Number 1218260). The event offers two fully signed and marshalled routes across private farmland with views toward Hardy’s Monument, Maiden Castle, Dorchester and Poundbury. The event has permission to use the estate for this occasion only.
Available distances:
- 10K
- 5K
Both routes are multi-terrain trail courses that include grass margins, pastureland, stubble fields and stony farm tracks. Surfaces can be uneven and may become slippery if wet. The 10K route has an aid station approximately halfway and the race is chip timed. Full medical cover is provided and the event runs under Association of Running Clubs permit and rules. Tail runners will support the field.
On-site amenities include field parking, toilets and refreshments with a licensed bar, BBQ and cakes provided by the PTFA. The event is cupless so participants should bring a collapsible cup or bottle for on-course drinks. Only open-ear or bone conductor headphones are permitted. Trail shoes are recommended. Both routes are unsuitable for buggies and dogs are not permitted.
Entry information: numbers are limited, no on-the-day entries, and there is an entry deadline of Wednesday 1 July. Fees differ by distance and age category; refunds are not offered but runner-to-runner transfers are permitted. Prizes, age category awards and finisher medals are included, and proceeds support Dorchester Middle School PTFA. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
