Casterbridge Canter Trail Run
The Casterbridge Canter is a midweek summer evening trail event organised by the Dorchester Middle School PTFA (charity number pending). It takes place on a private family estate near Dorchester that is not usually open to the public, with special permission to run two routes for this event only.
Distances:
- 10K, entrants 16 or over, chip timed, aid station approximately halfway
- 5K, entrants 13 or over, chip timed
Both routes are fully signed and marshalled and include tail runners. The course is multi terrain, comprising grass margins, pastureland, stubble fields and stony farm tracks; surfaces may be uneven and can become slippery if wet. Trail shoes are recommended and both routes are unsuitable for buggies. Only open ear or bone conductor headphones are permitted. The event is cupless; competitors should bring a collapsible cup or bottle if they want drinks on course.
Logistics and amenities include on site parking at Higher Came Farm, Dorchester DT2 8NR, toilets, on course water for the 10K, full medical cover and post-run refreshments including a licensed bar, BBQ and cakes. The race runs under Association of Running Clubs rules. Entry numbers are limited, there are no on the day entries, and the entry deadline is Wednesday 1 July or earlier if capacity is reached.
Prizes include finisher medals, open and female top three prizes, age category prizes and an option to pre-purchase a technical t shirt. The event raises money for Dorchester Middle School PTFA. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
