La Carrera de los Muertos : Chicago, IL
La Carrera de los Muertos is an annual 5K run and walk held in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood that celebrates Día de los Muertos, Latino culture, and community. The event began in 2007 and takes place each autumn, with in-person and virtual participation options.
The race gathers participants at Benito Juarez Community Academy, 1450–1510 W. Cermak Rd., Chicago, IL 60608. Programming around the course includes costumes, live music, food, altars, entertainment, and race merchandise. Event categories listed include timed, untimed, and virtual entries; adult timed and virtual registrations include a moisture-wicking technical shirt while youth participants receive a cotton T-shirt, and untimed entries include a cotton shirt.
La Carrera de los Muertos is owned and operated by UNO, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Proceeds support UNO youth programs, including GirlsMPowered and RunHer, which provide mentorship, mental health support, leadership development, and wellness opportunities for girls.
