La Carrera de los Muertos
La Carrera de los Muertos is an annual charity 5K held in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. The autumn event on October 31, 2026 is organized and owned by United Neighborhood Organization (UNO), a registered 501(c)(3). The race celebrates Día de los Muertos and Latino cultural traditions through costumes, music, folkloric dance, and a post race festival with food and artisan goods.
The event offers three participation categories: Traditional timed, untimed, and virtual. Registered participants receive a goodie bag that includes a race shirt, bib and a finish line medal. Timed bibs include a timing chip. Adults in timed and virtual categories may select a moisture wicking technical shirt while youth receive a cotton shirt. Virtual participants receive shirts, bibs and medals by mail; shipments are limited to the United States.
Logistics include a course map with possible route changes and planned street closures near the race route. Packet pickup dates are announced in early October. All participants must register online, sign a liability waiver, and minors must be registered by an adult. Same day registration is not available. Transfers, refunds and international shipments are not offered; timed entries may be converted to virtual and mailed.
Race proceeds support UNO programs focused on youth, including GirlsMPowered and RunHer. Awards include finish medals for all participants and special Calavera awards for top finishers in each category. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
