La Carrera de los Muertos
La Carrera de los Muertos is a charity 5K race founded in 2007 and held annually in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. The event is owned and operated by United Neighborhood Organization (UNO) and raises funds for UNO programming, including the GirlsMPowered and RunHer programs.
The race offers in-person and virtual participation with three registration options: Timed, Untimed, and Virtual. Timed and virtual participants receive a moisture-wicking technical shirt for adults and a cotton shirt for youth; untimed participants receive a cotton race shirt. All registered participants receive a bib and a finishers medal. Timed runners get a chip on their bib for official results and age division awards; untimed runners do not receive an official time.
A post-race festival takes place at Benito Juarez Community Academy and features on-stage entertainment such as mariachi music and folkloric dance, along with food, beverages, artisan vendors, and sponsor giveaways. Many participants wear costumes and Day of the Dead face makeup.
Entry policies include online registration only, required waivers for participants, and no same-day registration or refunds. Virtual participant packets are mailed within the U.S.; international shipping and expedited shipping are not available.
