Event Details

The Carrauntoohil event is a mountain run scheduled for Sunday, September 6, 2026, in County Kerry. The race starts at 10:00. The route has an elevation gain of 1,126 meters and covers a distance of 13.70 kilometers.

Course and Regulations

The route is not marked, and the use of GPS devices is permitted. The event is part of the Munster Championship and Irish Championship leagues. It is classified with an Extreme difficulty rating, defined as involving more than 1,000 meters of ascent.

Mandatory Kit

Runners must bring specific gear, labeled as Level C - Advanced. This mandatory kit includes:

  • Waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams
  • Hat or buff
  • Gloves
  • Whistle
  • Charged mobile phone with emergency number stored
  • Foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent
  • Waterproof full leg cover
  • Means to carry at least 500 mL of water
  • Emergency food
  • Map of the route or area
  • Compass

The specific kit required to be carried during the race will be confirmed at registration on the day, based on conditions. Random checks may be conducted, and failure to have the required items may result in denial of entry or disqualification.

Registration

Entries open on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 21:00 and close on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 18:00. The entry cost is €7 for seniors and €5 for those over 65 or under 18. The entry limit is 250 participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
