Carnavaddy
Carnavaddy is a marked mountain running event in Ravensdale Forest, County Louth. The event is part of the Leinster League and is rated as moderate terrain with 200–500 m ascent and a course length between 6 km and 10 km. GPS devices are not allowed.
Distances:
- 10 km : long course, about 450 m climb
- 5 km : short course, about 300 m climb
The long course starts just after a forest barrier, follows a fire road onto open mountain, then single track that contours around Round Mountain. Runners move onto a grassy track that climbs to the edge of the forest, follow a track to the summit of Castle Hill, then continue across mixed paths for about 2.4 km to the large cairn at Carnavaddy. The route descends grassy trails back to forest and follows the top of Foyle's Way alongside a stream to the finish. The short course starts 1 km after the long start, follows the long route to Castle Hill, then leaves the long route to cut through to the forest and rejoin Foyle's Way to the finish.
Parking is in a disused quarry about 100 m south along the road past The Lumpers Pub on the right. Standard IMRA parking charges apply: €4 single person car, €3 two people, €2 three people, free for a full car (4+). Registration is at a tented area behind The Lumpers Pub; the start is approximately 1 km from parking and 800 m from registration.
Mandatory Level B kit must be carried and includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with the emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. The required kit to be carried on the day may be finalised depending on conditions and will be advised at registration. Failure to carry the required items may result in denial of entry or disqualification; random kit checks may be carried out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
