About the race
The annual memorial race is held in Downtown Scranton, PA on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend during La Festa Italiana. The event includes a road running race and a community fun walk. Net proceeds support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania Children’s Christmas Party and two college scholarships at West Scranton High School.

- 5K (3.1 miles) road run
- 1 Mile fun walk
Registration fees are stated as $25 for pre-registered participants and $35 for day of participants. The first 100 registered participants are guaranteed a race T-shirt. The first 100 online registrants are also guaranteed a voucher for a virtual Yin yoga session provided by a local studio. Day of registration will provide water and fresh fruit at the main registration table.
A water station will be available about halfway through the course on North Washington Avenue near local businesses. A lead vehicle provided by a local dealership will pace the runners.
Awards include overall male and female recognition, top three male and female in each age group, top overall male and female walkers with trophies, and bonus prizes for top overall finishers and age group first places. A special Armed Service Award recognizes the top finisher in the 5K who is an active or veteran service member. Participants must be present to receive bonus prizes. Awards are presented at the main band stand immediately after the race.
Age groups are 13 and under, 14 to 19, 20 to 30, 31 to 40, 41 to 50, 51 to 60, 61 to 70, and 71 plus. Race committee members and family members of the memorial are not eligible for trophies or awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
