Cappy’s Backyard Ultra : event overview
Cappy’s Backyard Ultra is scheduled for March 28, 2026 at Cathedral Gorge State Park, Panaca, Nevada. The format requires participants to run a loop of 4.1667 miles each hour. Runners have one hour to complete each loop; finishing a loop within the hour allows a runner to start the next loop from the starting corral. The event continues until only one runner completes a final loop or until no runner can complete an additional loop.
Course, rules and logistics
There will be a day loop and a night course. The day loop is a loop course that is about 25% road and 75% single-track trail, with approximately 292 ft total climbing. The night course is an out-and-back that is about 75% road and 25% dirt road/trail, with approximately 117 ft total climbing. The course will be marked and may include some road sections with occasional vehicle traffic.
Rules include being in the starting corral before the top of the hour, no late starts, no pacers, no artificial aids, and no crew assistance while a runner is on the course. A small crew of up to two people may set up at the start area. An aid station at the start/finish pavilion will offer water, Tailwind nutrition, some food items and snacks; no aid is provided on the course. Registration fee listed is $90 and includes one night of dry camping and park day use/parking for one vehicle; registration closes March 25, 2026 at noon.
