Sanlam Cape Town Marathon
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is an annual road-running event in Cape Town, South Africa, featuring a full marathon alongside elite and wheelchair competitions. The event hosted races in May 2026 and is scheduled across 22–23 May 2027. The race has been assessed and approved to join the Abbott World Marathon Majors series in 2027, becoming the first AbbottWMM event held on African soil.
Race editions have included Age Group World Championship events and a 10 km Peace Run, with published final results and leaderboards for elite, wheelchair and 10 km fields. Recent editions recorded multiple course records in elite and wheelchair races and included large spectator presence and city scenery noted in event reports.
Organisers publish route maps, event photos and results, and run a Marathon Runners Portal for entrants. Entry processes have included a ballot and specific entry windows for candidacy club, ITO and charity entries; ballots and deadlines are announced for each year. The event describes its route as showcasing Cape Town’s cultural highlights and city landmarks, positioning the course as a showcase of the city’s scenery and public atmosphere.
