Sanlam Cape Town Marathon
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is a running event held in Cape Town, South Africa, that features marathon racing alongside related events such as wheelchair races and a 10 km Peace Run. The event provides a route map and route landmarks for participants and records results across elite, age-group and wheelchair fields.
The 2026 edition, staged on 24 May 2026, produced record-breaking times in the elite and wheelchair races and saw three of four course records broken. Organisers reported streets lined with spectators and scenic sections of the course during that edition. On 10 June 2026 the race was confirmed to join the Abbott World Marathon Majors series in 2027, becoming the first AbbottWMM event on African soil and the eighth member of the series.
Entry processes used in recent years have included a ballot and candidacy club allocation; specific entry windows and deadlines were published for the 2026 cycle. The event programme also includes related activities such as peace runs, travel programmes for international participants and charity entry options. Final results and leaderboards for the marathon, the 10 km Peace Run and other categories are published after each edition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
