Cape Carteret Turkey Trot
The Cape Carteret Turkey Trot is a community Thanksgiving costume fun run held in Cape Carteret, North Carolina. The event offers a family-oriented, untimed format with opportunities to walk or run on local trails. Routes run through the Star Hill area and on the Cape Carteret Trail. Water and aid stations will be set up along the course.
Distances available:
- 5k through Star Hill and the Cape Carteret Trail
- 1 mile loop around the Cape Carteret Trail
The event includes a costume theme and awards such as pumpkin pies for the first male and first female across the 5k finish line, plus pies for best dressed flock and best dressed turkey. The first 200 registered participants are guaranteed a Turkey Trot race shirt; participants who cannot be provided their shirt size will receive a turkey trot medal.
Extended packet pick-up is available during staffed hours the week of the event and on race morning. The start and finish area is at The GYM Cape Carteret Aquatic & Wellness, 300 Taylor Notion Road, Cape Carteret, NC 28584. Parking for participants and spectators is organized at White Oak Elementary (555 W B McLean Dr) and the nearby library (230 Taylor Notion Rd); parking at the gym lot is reserved for volunteers, vendors, staff, and first responders.
Proceeds from the event support the local charity partner Easter Seals PORT Health EMPOWER in Morehead City, NC. Registration opens May 28, 2026 and closes October 31, 2026; the listed registration fee is $40 per entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
