Cantigny 5K Run/Walk - Benefiting The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans
The Cantigny event is a multi-distance running program held on the grounds of Cantigny in Wheaton, Illinois. The main event is a USATF-certified 5K on a blacktop surface that remains entirely on Cantigny property. The 5K course follows cart paths across portions of the Cantigny Golf course and passes Cantigny Gardens, the Robert R. McCormick House, and the First Division Museum. The course will be modified this year due to construction on the golf course.
Timing and support are provided on course: the 5K is chip timed and disposable timing chips are included with race packets and attached to the bib. Digital clocks or timers appear at mile markers. Water stations are positioned at the halfway point and at the start/finish area. Bicycles, in-line skates, roller skates, scooters, other wheeled vehicles except wheelchairs, and dogs are not allowed on the course; runners with baby strollers must start behind and remain behind competitive runners.
Awards are presented to the top three male and female overall finishers for the chip-timed 5K and to the top three male and female finishers in the children's runs; awards for the 5K require a valid chip and official timing results are used for rankings. Packet pick-up includes the disposable timing chip and parking fees are waived for participants who pick up packets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
