Cantigny 5K Run/Walk : Benefiting The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans
The event features a USATF (IL-17036-WR) certified 5K course entirely on Cantigny grounds with a blacktop surface. The route starts and finishes at the Visitors Center, goes onto the rolling hills of the Cantigny Golf course (the golf portion is on cart paths), and passes the First Division Museum, the Robert R. McCormick House, and Cantigny Gardens. Digital clocks or timers will be located at mile markers. Water stations are placed at the halfway mark and at the start/finish area.
Two children’s non-chipped runs take place after the 5K: a 1 mile race for ages 6 to 10 and an approximately 1/4 mile race for ages 0 to 5. Awards are presented to the top three male and female overall finishers in the 5K and to the top three male and female finishers in each children’s race; awards for the 5K require a valid timing chip and official results from Mattoon Multisport will be used for rankings.
Additional event logistics include ample parking near the Visitors Center and finish line and a waiver of the parking fee for registered participants picking up race packets.
