About the race
The Canmore Ultra is a trail running event held at the Canmore Nordic Centre. It offers looped course formats with multiple aid stations, access for crew, labeled drop bags, and washroom facilities at the parking lot by the lodge.
Distances offered:
- 50 km
- 25 km
The event is limited to 200 participants in its first year. Runners must carry mandatory gear at all times, including bear spray and a receptacle that holds at least 1 litre of liquid (bottle, cup, or bladder). Suggested equipment includes trail shoes, a hydration belt or vest, and hiking poles. Aid stations are fully stocked and provide water, electrolyte drinks, cola, fruit, pretzels, and chips. Professional medics are present along the course and the route is well marked.
A 10 hour finish cutoff applies to the 50 km distance; certain aid stations have specific rules, and Aid Station 6 at 44 km is designated for medical pulls only. Parking is limited and requires a Kanaskis Provincial Pass, which is not included with registration. Spectators and crews are welcome in the designated start and finish areas. Finishers receive a medal and t-shirt, and top three finishers by gender in each distance receive additional prizes. The organizer recommends that runners attempting the 50 km have previously completed at least 35 km on trail. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
