Candles and Calaca's 5K Fun Run/Walk
Candles and Calaca's 5K is a Día de Los Muertos themed fun run and walk scheduled for November 1, 2026 at Michigan State University Hubbard/Akers Courtyard, 964 Hubbard Rd, East Lansing, MI 48825. The event is organized as a collaboration between the International Engagement Volunteers and the International Engagement in Mexico education abroad program. Proceeds support service learning projects carried out by Michigan State University students through IEV.
The event offers in person 5K runs and walks for students and the general public, plus a virtual 5K option for participants who cannot attend in person. Registration opens August 10, 2026. In person registration closes October 31, 2026; virtual registration remains open through November 1, 2026. Registering by October 16, 2026 guarantees a t shirt on race day. Fees listed for the event are MSU Students $25.00 and General Public $45.00.
All registered participants receive a customized t shirt. Medals will be awarded to the first 100 finishers for the in person race. On site registration will still warrant a t shirt but the shirt will be mailed several days after the event and on site prices match advance prices. In person participants will also receive two food tickets. Virtual participants will receive t shirt and medal by mail. Students should bring a Student ID for check in.
