Caleb Smail Memorial 5k
The Caleb Smail Memorial 5k is scheduled for August 16, 2026 at Bethlehem Community Park in Wheeling, WV. The event includes a 5K run/walk and a separate competitive 5K walk, plus community activities such as a cornhole tournament, raffles, family activities, and food.
Registration opens April 1 and closes August 10. The registration fee is $25. Participants who register by August 1 are guaranteed a race shirt. Proceeds will benefit Youth Services Systems to support local youth programs and resources.
The course is well marked and staffed with volunteers at all turns and at the turnaround. The route starts near the park playground, continues up onto Oak Drive circle, turns right onto Chapel Road to a volunteer-marked turnaround, returns on Chapel Road with a right onto Emerson, proceeds through neighborhood streets including Etna, then returns via Oak Drive circle into Bethlehem Community Park.
Awards are medals. For the 5K run the top three overall male and female finishers will be recognized, with age group awards for male and female categories 1-29, 30-49, 50-59, and 60 and over. For the 5K walk the top three overall male and female walkers will be recognized, with age group categories 1-49, 50-59, and 60 and over. The awards ceremony will follow about ten minutes after the last runner crosses the finish line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
