Byron Rainforest Run 2026
Byron Rainforest Run is a trail running event hosted by Byron Bay Runners at Minyon Falls in Nightcap National Park, running on remnants of the Big Scrub and World Heritage rainforest. The event uses single track and graded fire trails with multiple water crossings, steep ascents and sections of uneven, boggy ground. Course markings are provided and aid stations are located at the event hub and roughly every 6-8 km.
The event is conducted as a leave-no-trace, sustainability-focused race. Competitors must carry mandatory equipment and will not be permitted to race without it. Required items include an offline map app with the provided GPX route downloaded, a fully charged mobile phone, an approved snake bandage, and distance-specific items such as 1 L water for the longer races and a headlamp, waterproof jacket, thermal top and space blanket for the 50 km event. The Minyon Ultra has a checkpoint at 37 km with a 7-hour cutoff and an overall 10-hour race cutoff; late arrivals at checkpoints will be recorded as DNF and will be transported from the course.
All race distances are sold out and the wait list is full. Parking at the event hub and nearby campground is very limited. Camping is available at nearby Rummery Park with a limited number of pre-booked sites and a per-person nightly fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
