Buzz Sawyer Western Maryland Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K
The event takes place on Sunday, October 18, 2026, in Hancock, MD (21750). All courses run on the Western Maryland Rail Trail. The start and finish are located on the rail trail just north of C&O Bicycle at 9 S Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, MD.

The marathon and half marathon courses are USATF certified (MD17006NP and MD17005NP). The course layout is an out-and-back: participants travel 6.56 miles southwest, turn around, and return 6.56 miles to the start/finish. Marathon participants complete that loop twice. 10K participants turn around after 3.11 miles and return to the start/finish.
Entries, logistics, awards and event items
Age eligibility is listed by event: Marathon ages 13–99, Half Marathon ages 11–99, 10K ages 7–99. Packet pick-up is offered the day before at Buddylou's and on race day at C&O Bicycle near the start/finish. Race-day parking is available at two parking lots near the rail trail. A nearby lodging option listed is Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Clear Spring, MD.
Registered participants receive a race t-shirt, a custom race bib, finisher awards and podium awards, and post-race refreshments. Awards are given for the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K: top three male and top three female overall, plus overall top masters male and female; age group awards will be announced before the race.
