Buzz Sawyer Western Maryland Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K
The Buzz Sawyer Western Maryland Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K takes place on October 18, 2026 in Hancock, Maryland. The event is held entirely on the Western Maryland Rail Trail, with the start and finish located just north of C&O Bicycle at 9 S Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, MD 21750. The 2026 edition is the race's 11th.

The course is an out-and-back route. Participants travel 6.56 miles southwest along the trail before returning to the start; marathon runners complete that out-and-back loop twice. Ten kilometer participants turn around after 3.11 miles. The marathon (MD17006NP) and half marathon (MD17005NP) courses are USATF certified and can be used for Boston Marathon qualifying.
Packet pick-up is available Saturday at Buddylou's and on race day at the start/finish location. Runners receive a race t-shirt, custom bib, finisher awards and podium awards, and post-race refreshments are provided. Awards are presented for overall top finishers by gender and masters categories, with age group awards to be determined based on participant numbers. Race day parking is available at two nearby WMRT parking lots. Lodging options include a Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Clear Spring, MD.
