Buxworth '5' - 5 mile road race
Buxworth '5' is a measured 5 mile single-lap road race on country lanes, using The Paper Mill Inn in Whitehough as Race HQ. The route includes several testing climbs with a total ascent of 880 ft (268 m) and finishes with a flat final mile, so it is not described as a personal-best course. The roads will not be closed to traffic.
The event is held under UK Athletics rules. Wearing earphones or similar devices is not permitted; bone conduction earphones are allowed. Any competitor wearing earphones or similar devices will be disqualified.
Course record prizes are available for anyone who beats the 2023 times (Men 27.21, Women 30.39), with a £50 cash prize for each. As part of a climate commitment, the organiser offers a £2 free beer voucher for competitors who travel by public transport or who walk, cycle, or run to the start. Cars carrying four or more people receive a £10 voucher for the occupants to spend in the pub.
Entry details: entry fee £12.00 plus £0.95 admin charge; UK Athletics members receive an automatic £2 discount. Entries close Wednesday 26 August 2026 and entrants may transfer their place up to midnight on that date. No refunds are given; if the race is cancelled, entry monies will be given to charity.
