About the race
The Butterfly Fun Run is an annual fundraiser held in Christchurch during Baby Loss Awareness Week. The 2026 event takes place at The Groynes Reserve on 11 October and is the seventh year the event has been hosted.
Participants run or walk a 6 km loop track at The Groynes Reserve. Registrations include entry into prize draws provided by event partners; there are also awards for the best-dressed participant and for the first three runners across the finish line.
The event is part of a broader advocacy campaign to have miscarriage recorded nationally in New Zealand health data. Organisers present the run as a visible way to support their goal of including miscarriage as a maternity clinical indicator so that rates can be recorded, researched, and used to inform care. The event sits alongside other activities during Baby Loss Awareness Week, which occurs annually from 9 to 15 October and includes the International Wave of Light on 15 October.
The Butterfly Fun Run is presented alongside the organisation’s ongoing work to provide care packages and regional volunteer activities, and to campaign for improved miscarriage data and bereavement care pathways. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
