Butte Challenge

The Butte Challenge is a long-standing community athletic event held in Hermiston, Oregon. Now in its 25th year, it serves as a primary fundraiser for the local Hermiston Cross Country Program, supporting high school and junior varsity running teams. The event takes place at Butte Park and utilizes the surrounding streets and neighborhoods for its courses.

The event offers several individual distances and categories for participants:

  • 5K Run
  • 5K Walk
  • 10K Run
  • Free Kids Race

The 5K and 10K events are chip-timed road races that circle the community surrounding the Hermiston Butte. All finishers receive custom Butte medals and a gift bag upon completion of their event. Participants who complete the pre-registration process are entered into drawings for various door prizes provided by local community sponsors.

Technical shirts are available for purchase for those who register before the designated deadline in late May. For groups participating together, a family package option is available for immediate family members. The event organization is supported by local businesses, volunteers, and members of the Hermiston Cross Country team, who assist with tasks such as distributing water and goodie bags at the finish line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
