Buster Britton Memorial Triathlon
The Buster Britton Memorial Triathlon is set for May 2, 2027 in Pelham, Alabama, at Oak Mountain State Park. Race staging is at the South Trailhead parking lot on Terrace Drive. The event offers sprint and Olympic distances across swim, bike, and run segments.
Distances:
- Sprint: Swim 400 yd, Bike 13.1 mi, Run 3 mi
- Olympic: Swim 1,200 yd, Bike 26.2 mi, Run 5.5 mi
The swim is an open water time-trial in Double Oak Lake with racers entering the water about every three seconds. Racers are seeded by estimated swim time; late registrants receive higher numbers and start nearer the rear. Wetsuit use follows USAT temperature rules: mandatory at 60.6°F and below, permitted from 60.7°F to 78°F, allowed with ranking limitations from 78.1°F to 84°F, and prohibited at 84.1°F and above.
The bike course is an out-and-back on paved park roads with a bike lane where available. The route is moderately hilly; Olympic competitors complete two loops of the sprint bike course. A BIKE MOUNT and DISMOUNT LINE is used and bikes are walked to and from that line.
The run is an out-and-back on paved roads around picnic areas and a wooded, shaded section with short rolling hills. Participants are instructed to stay to the left on the run course to avoid crossover.
Event options include full triathlon, swim-bike, bike-run, and 2- or 3-person relays. A $5 park entrance fee is included with registration; non-racing passengers pay the fee on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
