Bust the Banks Half Marathon

The Bust the Banks Half Marathon is a trail race held as part of Dominion Energy Riverrock along the James River in Richmond. The course is approximately 13.1ish mile and runs along urban and riverbank trails with sections of single track, rocks, roots, and rapids-side scenery.

The course begins at the Dominion Energy Flat Lot and follows the Canal Walk, crosses the Mayo Bridge, travels the Manchester Floodwall, and enters the Buttermilk Trail. Runners continue on the Reedy Creek Trail, pass through Forest Hill, cross the Boulevard Bridge, and run the North Bank Trail before a downhill approach to the finish. The route includes tree limbs, banks to climb, rocky and bumpy sections, and city skyline views.

Organizers use wave starts; participants line up by predicted pace per mile to control trail volume. The event is cup-less and requires participants to carry their own hydration device. There is a 3.5 hour course time limit. Participants must be at least 12 years old; children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult.

Entry fees follow a tiered schedule and include a finisher t-shirt, chip-timed bib, and a drink ticket valid during festival hours. Entries are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-deferrable. Prizes are awarded to the top three overall finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
