About the race
Bumrun Calgary is a charity event focused on raising awareness for colon cancer screening and prevention. Organized by a charity that has raised over $1.8 million for various colorectal cancer organizations over 15 years, the event supports research and patient support programs. The race is held at the Foothills Hospital - Cal Wenzel Precision Health Building in Calgary.
The event offers several participation options:
- 5 km walk/run
- 500 m Little Bums (for children ages 12 and under)
- 5 km virtual run (available across Canada)
The 5 km live event follows a route where participants are organized by pace, with fast runners at the front and walkers at the back. Registration for the physical events includes a finisher medal, post-race snacks, and a personalized fundraising page. The Little Bums run takes place 20 minutes before the main race. Additional amenities on site include an open-air baggage check and first aid services. Awards are presented for overall performance in the 5 km category.
Participants can form teams to fundraise collectively. For those choosing the virtual option, the registration provides a digital certificate of completion rather than a physical race kit or medal. All funds raised contribute to the Colorectal Cancer Resource & Action Network to help address the high rates of colon cancer in Canada.
